Letter Excerpts from Aug 8th

Dearest Family:

The work of the lord is amazing! It makes bad men good and good men better. His glory is from everlasting to everlasting. When we think of this message, we get a glimpse and a hope that we are not wasting our efforts. I hope each one of you appreciate the Book of Mormon.

We had a great experience. Sister Grenfell is the new missionary I am training. She is from Kentucky/Texas and Montana. The first night here we went tracting and then to visit an eternal investigator who lived with a LA. We ended up teaching the first lesson to someone who was so ready to hear the message of the restoration and accepted the invitation to read ponder pray and be baptized. I am so grateful that the Lord gave us such a great miracle on her first day! Coming into this work can be a little interesting-if you don't understand the Lords way of doing things, you can get lost and confused in the mess of it all. (Why are there so many numbers? Why are we pushing? Doesn't anyone care about Sid the Sloth!) But with proper perspective on what everything means, it means so much! Sister Grenfell was able to see how simple the Lords invitation to follow Him really is. This gospel light that we are bringing to families has never been brighter in my eyes. I was surrounded  and impacted by it before, but now it is compelling me onward and refining me as I go.

With another family we were driving to the church and on the way the mom read Ephesians chp 4. When we talked about it, she was touched by the spirit that their family had just read that chapter. Interesting how the Lord works. The family might now be coming to church for a while, but D&C64 i think it is, is so wonderful! Be not weary in well doing, for you are laying the foundation of a great work.
I never realized that when people say "Oh, every missionary is from Utah" and kind of brush it off as a normal thing-that its NOT a brush off kind of thing! Their pioneer ancestors made the trek to get there so that Utah could become what it is today. It's like a factory of fighters! Did those early saints who sacrificed so much know that their children's children would be blessed by being part of the Marvelous work and Wonder? I am so grateful for the things I know from my own experience and from the Spirits tutelage.

I know that Jesus Christ loves me because I am the reason for His sacrifice. I know that Heavenly Father is wise and all knowing because he allows me to learn at the pace that is right for me. They know me individually because I see how they are shaping me. I pray with all that is in me that we may all continue in their care. I love you family! Love is the motivating event!

Our mission mom is starting this blog. hmmm....Marianne I know you have a blog...but maybe you don't have pictures because I haven't sent any recently?? I don't know but know that I think of my family so much! I am so glad that Justin and Eric told me to bring a picture of my family because I show it all the time. I love the people here. They are so close to my heart. I have been so blessed to have served here this long. I can truly thank Heaven for the strength of my heart. His love is how anything is accomplished. Knowing this is our task. On Sunday I bore my testimony and said that God loves those who keep his commandments. Then I stopped-No God loves everyone, what I meant was that Those who keep Gods commandments know it. I pray my family may always know this one fuelling fact. It drives all the goodness in this world and it will bind us together in the next.

love you much!

Sister Clendening
